Ending the season with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra joining forces in a fully-fledged symphonic concert that showcases the talents of two highly promising young musicians from the youth orchestra? Under the baton of the Artistic Director of the CyYSO Yiorgos Kountouris, Loucas Demetriou, CyYSO concertmaster, shines in the dazzling Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso by Camille Saint-Saëns. Petros Chimonides, CyYSO principal percussionist, mesmerizes you in Paul Creston’s Concertino for marimba and orchestra from 1940, a work with plenty of rhythmic bite and Ravelian flavour. This festive summer concert suitably closes with Gustav Mahler’s 1st Symphony, featuring some his individual compositional traits: the depiction of nature, the use of folk elements, pompous rhetoric and huge orchestral forces.
